In its 56 years as a community college, FCC has grown from just 70 casual students to more than 17,000 registered students annually. The school started as an evening school before it moved from Frederick High School to a facility in North Market Street. Then in 1970, it moved to its present address on Opossumtown Pike.
FCC has over 70 different degrees and continuing education programs. FCC awards degrees in associate in arts, associate of arts in teaching, associate in applied science and associate in science degrees and certificates of accomplishment in over 50 fields of study. Most of the students use transfer programs that will allow them to continue their education to a 4-year college. FCC also offers a variety of career-oriented programs that are designed to prepare students to enter the work force immediate after finishing school.
The college understands the special scheduling and limited-time needs of the adult part-time students, and they offer convenient evening and weekend classes, as well as online courses for distance learning. Students can choose from more than 70 academic and continuing education programs offered by FCC.
FCC also takes pride in contributing to its community. FCC’s The Arts Center is a cultural resource center that presents performances, exhibitions, and educational programs for the College and the community. FCC also features campus security on campus 24 hours a day. There are also telephones around the campus that may be used to call numbers within the school or to call emergency numbers, such as 911. FCC security is also willing to provide a number of services in addition to just responding to incidents within the campus.
